KATTANAKKEN
Kattanakken (the cat’s neck) where no-one tought it possible to hike. How wrong could they be!
From the top, you will see Briksdal Glacier surrounded by rugged mountains and cascading waterfalls. Your admission ticket to this show is your own exertion – a solid but feasible climb up steep terrain followed by a little scrambling as you approach the final ridge. From some angles, this hardly looks possible, but scaling the Kattanakken section is very achievable.
Start at the car park in Briksdalen. Follow the path/road towards the Briksdal Glacier. Turn right just before the second bridge across the river. Follow the path through the forest. The path gradually veers south and crosses some smooth rock, before it veers west up the mountainside taking you to the top of a ridge about 700 metres above sea level. Follow the ridge to the top. Kattanakken is a jagged mountain ridge. The walk is lofty in places.
